What is she inferring? That I'd hurt him?

She has some feelings for him obviously that go beyond just being his friend. He's right, you do not need her permission to date him. Who is she to tell you to wait a few years and then she's ok with it? No "friend" tries to keep a couple apart without ulterior motives in mind.
